Technology of Upconverting Fluorescent Markers (Lanthalux®) was developed for commercialization

Within a successful collaboration of FEW Chemicals with the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -entwicklung (BAM Adlershof-Berlin), supported by public funding via ZIM/Aif, the technology of upconverting fluorescent markers (Lanthalux®) was developed for commercialization. The scientific results were recently published jointly in an open access article:

Assessing the reproducibility and up-scaling of the synthesis of Er,Yb-doped NaYF4-based upconverting nanoparticles and control of size, morphology, and optical properties.
Scientific Reports, 2023, 13:2288
Andresen, E., Islam, F., Prinz, C., Gehrmann, P., Licha, K., Roik, J., Recknagel, S., Resch-Genger, U.

The development of the materials will be continued for applications in the area of anti-counterfeiting, security labeling and tracing of industrial plastics.

FEW dyes as sensitizers for a novel method of radical polymerization

The group of Professor Bernd Strehmel, Director of the Institute for Coatings and Surface Chemistry at Hochschule Niederrhein published a novel method of photoinduced Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization (ATRP) in Angewandte Chemie, International Edition.
This method works with only traces of copper(II) und and utilizes a special heptamethine dye comprising a barbituric acid structural element as efficient and photostable sensitizer for near-IR light.
